Overheard at a party

I was listening to and observing various conversations and people at a party the other day and overheard this: "She should have been born a boy". Two Mothers were chatting and watching their children play in the grass. One Mother described the tomboyishness of her daughter. Both Mothers had a good laugh. Have you ever heard a Mother or Father say their Son should have been born a girl?

Hearing this broke my heart.

Why is it accepted in this society to have a daughter who is tomboyish, but if your little boy behaves similarly, all hell breaks loose?

I remember back in the day, when I was whipped for wanting to play with the wrong toy and especially for wearing the wrong clothes.


This story below resonated in me like no other. I saw myself in this story and wonder how life could have been different had my parents been gender aware and socially courageous.
Jackie's parents in this story deserve the highest praise. How much courage they have to go against the flow socially and let their daughter be who she is. How many other children feel the same way, but don't have the familial support that Jackie does?
This is heartbreaking.
